ORIGINAL AND IMPROVED
I knew within 5 minutes of meeting Matt that he was the right guy to work with — his honesty and competence in his craft were evident and unmistakable right from the start.
My house was built in 1941, and we wanted to modernize it in some respects but also keep and even accentuate its original charm, which can be a really delicate balancing act. Matt and his team were superb at navigating this tension between original and improved.
He is familiar with traditional/early building techniques and materials, but just as expert in modern/advanced methods and tools. As a result, our remodel exceeded our own high expectations and, importantly, we always felt taken care of while it was underway (and after)!
I will not hesitate to work with Matt and Baer Works on future projects, whether remodeling something old or building something new.
In 1993 I moved out and fell in love with Tucson. I joined the Community Home Repair, started by the Mennonite church, as a volunteer opportunity to do home repairs for low income homeowners.
I met my wife, Jeanne Yordy, through that program and together we launched Baer Works in 2009. Since then, we have been able to hand pick a small group of collaborators to keep the projects focused on quality work and quality relationships. Collectively, we have a wide range of abilities including custom woodworking, blacksmithing, welding, sheet metal, home building, commercial construction, concrete countertops and benches, furniture, tile, painting, faux finishes, and more, all rooted in the tradition of quality craftsmanship.
The whole process is a collaboration with clients. We like to achieve what each client wants while being cost-effective. I am proud that our team does some of the best work around Tucson with that in mind. We are good at applying the right skillset for the task at hand, whether it be with architects, designers, or other craftspeople and subcontractors.
